I had flown as a passenger with my son countless times but never had him as a passenger when I was driving. I had already commuted up to my crash pad in preparation for a four day when I realized that the first leg of my trip was headed to Miami. I knew that my son had plans to go to Miami in a couple days to visit a buddy. I called him up and asked him to rearrange his travel plans so that I could give him a ride. He said great and caught the morning non-stop to Charlotte. I met him on arrival and took him over to our departure airplane. The Flight Attendants thought it was great and put him in First Class. The plan was coming together. The flight south was wonderful, and I was beginning to think about the approach. We were set up on the final to 9L and I was hoping for the best landing of my career. Unfortunately, I got messed up with some wake turbulence from the preceeding DC-10 and scrunched the touchdown. How embarrassing. I was walking my son down to baggage claim when he said sarcastically: “Nice landing Dad.”
