Southwest Unveils First Boeing 737-800 (Video)

Today, Southwest Airlines held a big party in Dallas to celebrate the unveiling of their first ever Next-Generation 737-800. As first airplane in their fleet, this new Boeing jet, named Warrior One, also features the Boeing Sky Interior.

The Boeing Sky Interior offers a quieter, more comfortable environment for Customers with taller ceilings and more overhead bin space, improved operational security features, ambient LED reading and ceiling lighting.

After the formal part of the event, Employees were allowed to tour the aircraft and see firsthand the new Boeing Sky Interior with its improved sidewalls, larger overheads, and new ceiling with mood lighting.

After some final certifications, Warrior One and a second Boeing 737-800 will be set to enter scheduled service on April 11.

By the end of this year, Southwest Airlines will have 33 Boeing 737-800s in its fleet. It will give the airline scheduling flexibility with additional capacity in high-demand, slot-controlled markets. And thanks to the airplane’s ETOPS capabilities, Southwest can now fly to new markets on routes not currently available.
